As the 84th American Hockey League regular season nears its conclusion we would like to highlight several notable events that have taken course over the past few months.

  • On Sunday January 26th the Western Conference prevailed over the East in the AHL All-Star Skills Competition by a score of 18-15.   Also, during the skills competition, a new record was set for hardest shot by Martin Frk of the host Ontario Reign.  The shot was recorded at 109.2 MPH
  • On Monday January 27th the 2020 AHL All-Star Challenge was won by Team Atlantic when they defeated Team Central by a score of 3 – 1.
  • Vitek Vanecek, goaltender for the Hershey Bears and Team Atlantic, was named Most Valuable Player.
  • Robb Stauber and Derek Armstrong served as honorary captains.

Prior to the 2020 AHL All-Star Challenge the league announced its induction of Robbie Ftorek, Denis Hamel, Darren Haydar and Fred Thurier as the AHL Hall of Fame Class of 2020.

In January, American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews announced that the Laval Rocket have been selected as host of the 2021 AHL All-Star Classic.  The 2021 All-Star Classic will be held January 31st and February 1st at Place Bell Arena in Laval, Quebec.

As always we wish to congratulate each of our PHATS & SPHEM membership milestones achieved, however this season specifically, the PHATS AHL membership would like to take this opportunity to extend congratulations to Kevin Kacer- Head Athletic Trainer, Chicago Wolves. When the Chicago Wolves hosted and defeated the Milwaukee Admirals on February 13th it marked Kevin’s 2,000th game. A milestone that very few American Hockey League Athletic Trainers have reached. We thank Kevin for his dedication and service to our profession and his impact & leadership within our league. Congrats Kacer!!

We hope that everyone remains healthy and safe during these unfortunate circumstances. We remain optimistic that our extended hockey family comes through this crisis sooner than later with as minimal impact as possible.

Thank you to our Partners!
